The arabo-moslem art lived his first experiments and carried out the principal forms of its plastic expression initially in architecture. The squares of zellige (mosaiks), occupy an important place in town architecture. The small squares cover the walls or are aligned in the form of planks in many buildings. The work of these beautiful enamelled earthenware squares, preserved still well our day they cover the minarets, the mosques, the gates. The most used technique : the craftsman outputs in squares already enamelled plain color of the fragments of which them forms were traced beforehand on enamel. Each fragment then is trimmed, cut, finished before being bound by the mortar at other piece-rates. These geometrical provisions are finely worked and form arabesques in all the forms: tables, fountains, squares.. |
